The easiest (and most exciting) way to get involved in RUOC is to come on one of our trips. Check out the trips that we have planned for this semester by clicking on the website’s “Trips & Calendar” option. We try our hardest to keep the trips economical—most are less than $25.

Because we are all poor college students, we also keep our dues low. Only $10 per semester entitles you to borrow any gear from our shed on Livingston campus and attend our trips. The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the RUOC Listserv

The listserv is an email mailing list maintained by Rutgers. Basically, when someone wants to announce something to the entire group, they send a email to the listserv and it is automatically forwarded to all the users (over 1000!). Don’t worry though, even though there are over 1000 users signed up to receive mail from the listserv, we moderate the listserv to keep traffic on topic and limited to about 10 emails per week.

Joining the Listserv

To join the listserv, open up your email program and send an email to RU_OC-join@email.rutgers.edu. You can leave the subject and message body blank, but be sure to send it from the email account you want RUOC mail delivered to.

Posting to the Listserv

You can only post to the listserv after you have joined. You can use the listserv to tell everyone about a great trip you have planned or want to see happen in the future—it could be something as simple as looking for people to go up to Mountain Creek for the weekend or looking for a hiking partner.

However, if you have questions about a trip, you should email the person who posted the trip to the listserv and not the entire group. You can do this by clicking “Reply” in your email program. To post to the listserv, just send an email to RU_OC@email.rutgers.edu with your message and an appropriate subject.

Leaving the Listserv

Why would you want to do that! Well, if you do, just send an email to RU_OC-leave@email.rutgers.edu You can leave the subject and body blank, just be sure to send if from the email account that is subscribed to the listserv.
